We are the second-grade class of Jayenne Elementary in Fairmont,
West Virginia.

We hope you read our story and share our sunshine on your program,
"CBS Sunday Morning."

Thank you!

Hello, CBS!

Our Story

Our teacher, Miss Stephany Shelosky-Blickenstaff is a friend of artist and designer, Beth Keener-Flanery. Miss Stephany invited
Beth and her Mother, Marilyn Keener, retired teacher, along with Jordan Brigman to visit our classroom in April of 2024.
They taught us how to work as a design team, just like a real job to complete our project.

We hope you watch the videos to get to know us a little bit better and let us show you how we see the sun in West Virginia, a project that required our team to learn about pitching creative ideas and concepts to fellow team members, and finally our polished letter writing skills.

Measured Outcomes

THE PROJECT: Our goal is for our sunshine(s) to appear on CBS Sunday Morning.

The approach we took with the class was a collaborative art project. Collaborative art projects offer a range of benefits for students of all ages. They encourage teamwork and cooperation. When students work together on a shared creative endeavor, they learn to communicate effectively, listen to others' ideas, and compromise.

These skills are vital for success in the real world, where collaboration is a common requirement in the workplace and beyond.
The students did well. We created three teams: a Narrative Development Team to express why CBS should use our unique and special sunshine on their show, a Letter-Writing Team to introduce and share our desired outcome, and a Design Team working collectively to produce the final work of art.

Additionally, I shared a brief history of my work as a handbag designer and revealed the sunshine handbag I produced specifically for this project.
